Soon its my birthday

This morning Facebook told me that it is my birthday soon. I was shocked and replied "No it is not". Of course it is true and no I am not going senile. For me it summed up how weird 2020 has been and now feels like an alternate reality.

I have a drawer full of masks, all colour's including a rainbow one. It is something I judge people on and the first thing I notice about someone's appearance. Someone mocked me once for wearing one.

I have been to a Supermarket with empty shelves, aisles even. Lists went out the window for a while. That was after queuing to get in, of course.

I gave myself a DIY blood test, just a pin prick but nothing I ever thought would happen.

I have been home more than I have been in work. Made redundant, retrained then quit.

I went up a knicker size. My Candy Crush skills have improved immensely.

Locked down with my daughter but have hardly seen my son.

While my pandemic experience has been pretty mild. I've watched and listened as deaths have soared, people have become covidiots, politicians have been inept and so many lies have been told. Inequalities and injustice has been magnified.

So in less than a month I'm going to be 63. I'm staying optimistic that humanity will prevail. As I tell my children, we have each other and we will get through this.
